Leveraging the Kāinga Ora HomeStart Grant

First Home Buyers – Do You Qualify for a First Home Grant?

Venturing into the housing market for the first time can pose substantial financial challenges for many aspiring homeowners.

The escalating property prices, scarcity of suitable options, and difficulties in raising the required deposit can make the journey to owning your first home a daunting one. At Conveyancing Express, we understand these complexities and are committed to supporting you in acquiring your first home.

Are you aware that you might qualify for government support to purchase your first home? We at Conveyancing Express can assist you to:
  • apply for pre-approval prior to initiating your property search; or
  • finalise the application process after you have found a suitable property and signed a sale and purchase agreement.

The eligibility criteria for the First Home Grant are as follows:

For first-time homebuyers, you must:
  • be at least 18 years old;
  • have an income below the stipulated caps in the past 12 months;
  • currently not own any property;
  • have consistently contributed at least the minimum amount to your KiwiSaver for a minimum of 3 years;
  • buy a property that falls within the regional house price limits;
  • plan to reside in your new home for a minimum of 6 months.
    For those who have previously owned homes, you must:
  • have never received the First Home Grant, KiwiSaver HomeStart Grant/KiwiSaver deposit subsidy, or made a first-home withdrawal before; and
  • not possess realisable assets exceeding 20% of the house price cap for existing properties in the area where you intend to buy.
